Last Resurrection of the Lord God Bird
"Last Resurrection of the Lord God Bird"
Ink & watercolor on paper
9 x 12 inches
The ivory-billed woodpecker was said to be such a magnificent creature that all who caught a glimpse would exclaim, "Lord God, what a bird!" Once native to the virgin forests of the southern United States, the true status of this critically endangered bird has been uncertain for many years. Much mystery and mythology now surrounds it. I pay my respects with this illustration: a fiery rebirth of the ivory-billed woodpecker as the legendary phoenix, as Earth's forests continue to burn.
